The smoking/non-smoking thing shouldn't be an issue because they have an outdoor area with tvs. As an added advantage, the place is walking distance from where I live (helpful on those nights when I've had more than the recommended daily allowance of liquid refreshment). Question: this is going to sound ridiculous, but I feel a certain amount of guilt and disloyalty to Wings. I mean, I have more than 4mil points in there. OTOH, what is the point of slaughtering the (non) competition at Wings when I might have a more challenging game at BWW? I think I'll probably just visit for a while until I see how things are before I actually move my points.
There's nothing wrong with you playing at the new BWW as a visiting player until things fall into place there.
As far as loyalty and guilt go ... you still have to look out for yourself. If I had a place to play within walking distance of my house, you can bet I would do night games there. Presuming the old place has treated you and your team very well, consider visiting them for lunches and early outings where consumption tends to be in check.

Neither you or Wings management should feel that you are being disloyal if you move your points. BWW will be closer to you, and you can always drop in on a Sat or Sun afternoon at Wings and support them every now and then.
Now, in saying all that, are you sure that BWW will be carrying NTN? I just pulled all the sites up for your area, and they aren't listed. Normally, NTN will list all sites signed up for, maybe six weeks before they get the installation.
You might want to give NTN a call and ask whether an installation has been scheduled or email them @ sales@ntn.com . If they aren't aware of the site, they might want to know about it, to contact TPTB @ BWW Corporate.

I noticed something similar when I went to Knoxville for ABC Nationals in April 2003 and stayed in Sevierville. The Damon's in nearly Gatlinburg did not show up on the NTN site finder. Likely the exception to the rule.

We have a place in Littleton called Kahunas that doesn't show up either.

Thanks for the moral support, folks. BWW has indicated in pre-opening publicity that they will indeed offer NTN. In fact, they are actively seeking to cut into Wings' NTN/sports clientele because Wings pretty much had that segment all to themselves. Last weekend I took a peek inside BWW through the door and I was very impressed. It looks as though they've thought things through as far as number of tvs, placement and overall layout. Maybe later on in the fall I will try the "al fresco" approach to trivia on the outside but those of you who have experienced summer in Dixie know how foolhardy it would be now.
Can anyonw who regularly plays at a BWW tell me a little about the chain, how they're operated, etc.? |

Most BW3s are great places to play, in my area we about 6-8 in a 50 mile radius, maybe a few more on the outskirts. Typically the beer is reasonable, they have regular food and drink specials and they usually has some fun extraneous activities like wing eating contests and sometimes ntn contests. Most of them usually get the wrestling pay-per-views too, which can be fun. Stuff like that is completely up to the management of the place though. As far as I know EVERY bw3 has trivia and the smallest # of boxes I have seen is 20. One of the places where I play, BW3 medina, has about 50.
Sometimes they get parents that bring their kids and let them run around in the bar, which is a big bother to me. Also, one time I told off a couple that decided that they were going to change their baby's diaper on the table. Overall, they are good places to eat and play trivia. There are exceptions to everything, but in my experience I've only had one bad encounter at BW3, which you can read about in my post,"getting screwed by bw3 canton" That manager got fired, no, wait, that's right, he quit, he didn't get fired Yeah, that's what it was [rolling eyes]

Thanks for the very useful information. Corporation web sites are usually the LAST place you would expect to find an objective view of operations, so your post was very helpful.
A few quick thoughts about transferring my points: I have been going to Wings for about 5-6 years now. When they went non-smoking in January, I became second-in-command in total p+ points by default when two people ahead of me transferred out. Even before that, I was treated with great deference by management and staff as would be expected for a customer who has spent thousands of dollars there. It is the "Norm Effect," as I like to refer to it. Bartenders have my box and beer in front of my chair even before I have a chance to sit down and remove my jacket. The manager made a special effort to seek me out and introduce me to Wings owner Bob Baumhower, former Alabama and Miami Dolphins great. I never have to ask to have a tv switched from sports to NTN.
The point is, I'm reluctant to have to start all over again in establishing this level of rapport with a new set of hosts. As cliche as it sounds, I really like being in a place where "everybody knows my name." I just found out a few minutes ago, however, that one of the Wings managers (who also happens to be an NTN fanatic) has defected to BWW.....maybe it won't be so bad after all.

Starting in a new place do what you would do anywhere that you would want to leave a good impression. Be polite, tip well, and be distinctive. After a few visits they'll have your drink ready when you pull into the parking lot and a board (or in my case 2-3) at a barstool for you. There's no reason for you to just stop going to the other place entirely, but you'll soon find plenty of excuses not to. Especially if you like the format of the new place.

| My problem with BW3s is the volume they play their music. It's really loud in Louisville KY. |

Sound advice, indeed. As I mentioned earlier, a former Wings manager has jumped to BW3 and I gather from conversation with her that my trivia reputation has already preceeded me. Mind you, the place has not even officially opened yet.
I won't stop going to Wings completely, at least for now. Still, having a place for trivia less than a block from my house will make it hard to opt for a three-mile drive in heavy Montgomery traffic.

I don't mind loud music/sporting events. As long as it's something I want to hear. When I play for money I put on headphones and listen to my favorite CDs to blot out ambient noise and adjacent conversations.
